What happens to pictures?

Pictures from Word and PDF go inside the Markdown file in their own format, so one .md carries them. Markdown to Word, PDF or HTML keeps them as they look on the page.

Can I convert HTML to Markdown, or Markdown to HTML?

Yes. Drop an .html file and choose Markdown: headings, lists, tables, links and code become Markdown. Drop an .md file and choose HTML for a web page that opens offline.
